ABOUT CAC

With St. Petersburg Alumnae being the closest chapter, each month our twelve charter members commuted twenty miles for chapter and committee meetings. Longing to be an agent of change in the city of Clearwater, these dedicated women spent the next twenty years (late fifties to mid-seventies) gaining enough members to charter a new local chapter.

Upon sufficient membership, the Clearwater Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was organized in the fall of 1976. Under the guise of Panchitta Carwise as the interim President, the fortitude of these twelve committed women created the first African-American Greek letter organization in the city of Clearwater.

The Clearwater Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. was chartered on April 2, 1977 with specific goals to:

  • Promote academic excellence and provide scholarship

  • Provide support for the underserved â€‹â€‹â€‹

  • Educate and stimulate participation in the establishment of positive public policy

  • Highlight issues and provide solutions in the Clearwater area

The chartering service was held at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church; Dr. Yvonne Kennedy, Southern Regional Director, conducted the ceremony.
